I hope you had a relaxing long weekend. We have a lot of fun planned this week! We'll be dying our shirts for field day, riding a bus to the zoo, and praying the world rosary on Friday to kick off Catholic Schools week. Please see the bottom of this post for more information about Catholic School's week!
Zoo Trip, Thursday: Dress code- students may wear jeans along with our school polo/sweatshirt. They may also wear a hat or sunglasses if they wish. Depending on the temperature and please sunscreen your child the morning if you prefer. Food- Your child's lunch for the trip should be packed in a brown bag and labeled with their name. A snack light sent in a small labeled Ziploc should be sent separate from the lunch. Students will also need a disposable water bottle labeled with their name. Please ensure everything in your child's lunch can be thrown away (no bento boxes or ). We are looking forward to a great day of fun! Here is what we will be working on this week in our classroom: Reading: Will all the January fun ahead, we divide this lesson into two weeks and wrap it up next Thursday. Our theme is nature all around. The new HFWs include: find, from, but, this, come, on. Our sound is /g/ and the students will hear the story It is the Wind. We will finish up this chapter next week as well. Math: The students will be assessed on ordinal numbers and we will work on a new chapter on Calendar Patterns. The students will practice putting both the days of the week and the months of the year in order. Religion: We will begin to learn about the miracles of Jesus and understand the difference between a miracle and magic. We will revisit this weekend's gospel of the wedding at Cana where Jesus performed His first miracle. We will continue the week learning about other story's of Jesus miracles including the loaves and fishes and when Jesus calmed the storm. Social Studies: With Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday, the students will learn about who he was was and the important dream he had. The students will We'll discuss our own dreams big and small. This Friday is the the World Rosary: All are welcome to join us. Each class is invited to wear a color to represent a different part of the world. Kindergarten students may wear a plain yellow t-shirt for this day but it is not required. Please do not go out of your way to get a yellow shirt! Also if students attend Mass this weekend and wear their catholic school uniform, they can earn free dress day on Monday the 28th. I will post the form below. If your child wears their uniform to mass this weekend please sign off on the coupon and return it on the 28th. Lastly, a note from the office: As we continue to accept kindergarten applications for the 2019-2020 school year, please consider recommending St. John to your family and friends. We are currently accepting applications for all grade levels. The deadline for Kinder applications is January 18th! As current families, our re-registration will take place in February.
