All are welcome as long as your safe environment training is up to date. A reminder that school will be closed this following Monday the 18th. . Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 19. Enjoy the upcoming long weekend!! First off, a few notes from the school: 1. As part of our continued effort to protect our students, we strictly enforce the Diocese of Phoenix Safe Environment Policies and Procedures. We are so grateful for our very conscientious parents and the way they adhere to our requirements for volunteering and visiting campus. Since several new families have joined us i.n January and there are quite a few special events coming up in the Spring that require Safe Environment Compliance, we are adding a Foundation Training here at school in March. "Keeping the Promise Alive" will be presented on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 5pm -7:30pm in our school library. Please go to the Diocese of Phoenix Safe Environment page and click on REGISTER FOR A CLASS. Scroll down to 3/19 and the entry for Saint John XXIII School. You may register at the far right of this line. Thank you all for your help with keeping our children safe!!!!!! 2. Since 2006, St. John XXIII Catholic School Community has implemented the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, a researched-based, nationally recognized program that comes out of Clemson University. One of the main components of the program is Parent Support. We thought a great way to increase our parent support for this program would be to hold an informational meeting so that parents may gain a better understanding of how we utilize this program here on campus. Please join us on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 5pm in our school library for an overview of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. Now for our week in K2... Literacy: this week we focus on the sound /d/. Our knowledge of sight words continues to grow as we learn 6 more: go, up, here, soon, for, they. Our theme is outdoor adventures and we will hear some fun stories about different kinds of adventures as well as share our own adventures. We continue to practice our writing, blending and building words with engaging centers. Math: We will finish up out chapter on counting on and counting back this back this week and we will start working in the next chapter on measurement. The students will practice measuring with nonstandard units and compare sizes based on length and height. Religion: This week we will be finishing up the 12 Apostles and talk about faith and trust. The students will hear various bible stories that demonstrates faith and trust in God and His plan. The stories include Jesus calming the storm, Noah's ark, and David and Goliath.
