We are off and running in Kindergarten this week!
Literacy: We will dive right into our curriculum and begin with a review of our letters a-e. We will be working on our letter sounds and handwriting. As we look at various nursery rhymes, we will search for letters, recognize names, discuss opposites, listen for phonemic sounds and rhyming words. We will also continue to review the colors as we learn to spell them through fun songs and creative artwork. The children are creating a fun color book to share with you soon! Religion: This week we learn about the Holy Trinity: 3 Persons in 1 God. We will focus on correctly making the sign of the cross and learn the Glory Be prayer. Math: The students will strengthen their knowledge of numbers 1-5. We will practice writing, forming our numbers, ordering, and recognizing them. Social Studies: Students will share about their families as we discuss similarities and differences. We will be making a class family quilt to display to represent our larger school family. Last week we focused on classroom and school rules as well as our school mission statement. We have learned about what it means to be a R.E.A.L. student at Saint John XXIII Catholic School. This week I will introduce our classroom behavior management system. It aligns with the R.E.A.L. School-Wide Learning Expectations. More information will be included in your child's red folder Monday and will be discussed in more detail at curriculum night. Upcoming dates: Tuesday, August 15, 10am Mass-Holy Day of Obligation Wednesday, August 23, 6pm Kindergarten Curriculum Night Have a great week and as always feel free to contact me about any questions or concerns.
