Welcome back!
Last week was such a hit with the students, tasting apples and apple items. Thank you again for your support in making this such a success!! This week we continue our fall fun and will celebrate and learn about Johnny Appleseed. Keep your eyes open for a fun piece of art coming home this later this week! Literacy: This week our theme is "helping". Our stories are The Little Red Hen and The Handiest Things in the World. There are no new high frequency words this week. Instead, we will be reviewing and practicing them and the kiddos will be tested on the words at the end of the week. Our words are: I, the, and, & like. We will review the sound /m/ and introduce /s/. In grammar, the students will continue to identify verbs within sentences. The students rocked verbs last week and we all had some giggles sharing a funny action we each like to do. This week should be another successful one in literacy. Religion: We will continue our lesson on loving others as God loves us. We will discuss the story of the poor woman who gives all she has, as well as, the and the Good Samaritan. We also made rosaries last week and started praying a decade of the rosary after lunch...we will continue to build our prayer stamina this week. Some students have been excited to bring a special rosary from home. I'm thrilled with their eagerness to share in this special prayer. This practice will help prepare the kindergartners for our Saint John XXIII school rosary that will be prayed on October 5 prior to courtyard prayer. The start time is 11:50, and all are welcome! More details to come. Also, this week we begin Atrium. This is a special extension of our in class religion lessons and tends to be a favorite for the students. The students will attend once a week for 45 minutes and spend a quite, peaceful and prayer time learning about Jesus and our Catholic faith. Make sure to ask your kiddo about it as I'm sure they'll be excited to share! Math: This week we dive into composing and decomposing numbers. We will look at building numbers and build our early addition skills through a variety of hands on math centers! We'll continue to practice writing our number and sequencing too! Social Studies: This week we focus on being a citizen. We'll learn what it means to be a citizen, that we have rights and responsibilities and the importance of helping others in our community. One final thought, if you could save toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls and send a few in during this next week. We have a few upcoming projects and art pieces that will put them to great use! Have a great week and as always, feel free to contact me at any time! Mrs. Zander
