Hope you are all are enjoying your long weekend and are getting in some great family time!
We wrapped up our first quarter this past week...and 1st quarter reports will be sent out at the end of the week. I still am amazed at how quickly this year is moving. In about 4 weeks will have our first round of parent teacher conferences (November 7-11). I look forward to sitting down with each of you to discuss you child's successes and progress in kindergarten! A signup genius will be sent out in the next week. Sign up for a time that works best with your schedule. Literacy: This week's literacy theme is Communication. The students will discuss and compare how animals and people communicate. In class this week we continue to plow through our sight words! The students will be introduced to their 6th sight word: we. Please continue to use the flashcards that we sent home with the initial homework packet. You can have them read and spell each word for extra practice. The students have been very excited to see these words in many of the books we are reading, as well as their guided readers during our small group!! We will focus on the sound /t/ and both the short and long a sounds. The class will continue to work with sensory descriptive words, building on our Five Senses theme last week. We will even create silly jack-o-lanterns and write a descriptive sentence about our creations! Math: We continue to focus on numbers 10-20, paying extra attention to correct number formation when writing them. The students will practice counting up to 20 using ten frames and counters...and a relay game that is a particular class favorite! Religion: As we approach All Saints Day, our class will focus on about a handful of these special saints. This week we will focus on four very important ones: Our Blessed Mother, Mary; Jesus' father, Joseph; Saint Bernadette (our church's namesake and a personal favorite); and St John XXIII. The students will be creating their own saint book over the next few weeks compiling all these wonderful saint's stories. We will also start our preparation for Adoration. Our visits to the Adoration Chapel will begin soon, so the children will learn how we can pray in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Lastly, this week we begin our first of many class community service project. The students will be creating beautiful fall place mats for the residents at Pueblo Norte Senior Living. These beautiful and heartfelt pieces are sure to brighten their day! :) Thank you to the two mom's that are running this project each month! Lastly, please remember to check out the Home Room News tab for updates from the room moms, Stacey and Vicki! Updates have been posted regarding the Harvest Festival which is around the corner! Thank you and see you all Tuesday! Mrs. Zander
