It was wonderful to see so many of you at BINGO night! It was a fun way to kick off the school year as a school community! There will be more events like this throughout the year.
We are off and running in Kindergarten this week! These first few weeks are spent reviewing and strengthening many of the skills the children ended their schooling with last year. It gives me an opportunity to see where each kiddos' strengths lie and any areas that we need to focus on. Literacy: We will dive right into our curriculum and begin with a review of our letters Aa-Ee. The students will work on their handwriting of letters and their name. As we look at various nursery rhymes, we will search for letters, recognize names, discuss opposites, and listen for rhyming words. We will also continue to review colors as we practice spelling them through fun songs and creative artwork. The children are creating a fun color book to share with you soon! Religion: This week we learn about the Holy Trinity: 3 Persons in 1 God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). We will focus on correctly making the sign of the cross, discover the Bible and learn what its made up of. We'll also start praying as a class and sharing intentions. Math: The students will review and refresh their prior knowledge with various manipulative to count, pattern, and explore. Social Studies: This week's focus is Working Together. We will continue to explore our classroom and school rules. The students will be able to identify why rules are important in our school, home and community. Last week I sent home information about our behavior management calendar and our R.E.A.L. School-Wide Learning Expectations. Our class will continue to learn about what it means to be a R.E.A.L. student at Saint John XXIII Catholic School. We will explore our choices in the classroom and work together to promote decision making that shows respect for others, respect for self, and respect for things...in doing so we show our love of God and act in the image of Christ.
