I hope you all had a relaxing and fun filled Labor Day weekend!
A few updates: Our class has grown to 19 students! Welcome Argue family...and welcome Casey. We've loved getting to know our new classmate this past week...and the class has done a nice job of making him feel part of the K2 family!! Also, Mrs. Frisicaro is taking over another class while another teacher is on maternity leave, so we will have a new aid in class this week. A warm welcome to Mrs. Keith who will be our new aid for the next few months! Now, a peek at our week: Reading: We will continue our work on our sight word "I". Our focus continues with rhyming sounds and syllables as we explore a few new texts. We will also work on letters m, n, o and practicing the capital and lowercase forms. Last week the class was introduced to nouns and this week we will dive in a bit deeper finding nouns in our reading and practice writing them too! We are also focusing on perfecting writing our names. You can work on this at home too. The children are practicing writing their first and last name with only the first letters of each capitalized. Math: This week we will wrap up numbers 1-9. The class will be introduced to the vocab "more", "less", and "same". We will also continue practice writing out the numbers correctly. Religion: This past week we wrapped up our Creation lesson and will have a quiz on lesson 2. Questions will be emailed for individual practice at home. Lesson 3 starts us off with the story of Adam and Eve. We will also hear the story about Jesus welcoming the children. Lastly, the class will learn about the recent canonization of Mother Teresa... now Saint Teresa of Calcutta and the wonderful things she's known for! This week our class will attend Atrium for the first time. They will attend in smaller groups; half will start Tuesday and the other half on Wednesday. On another note, this Friday will be our first school wide Pride Day. Students will be part of a "pride" that includes students from all grade levels. They will take part in a fun, student led lesson. During this Pride Day, students are encouraged to donate to the school's particular cause and in return get free dress. Kindergarteners are asked to donate spaghetti noodles on Friday and can then wear appropriate free dress that day! See the school newsletter from Friday for more information. Lastly, this week I will be sending home a login for IXL, a website focusing on math, language art, science and social studies. This a wonderful site to supplement your child's learning. This is meant to be a tool for practice at home and will not be graded. A link will be added to the resource tab above. See you all this week! Mrs. Zander
