I hope you had a wonderful long weekend with your family!
Here is a look at our classwork this week:
Reading - This week's theme is going to school and friends. We'll read the stories Friends at School and How Do Dinosaurs Go to School? We discussed nouns last week and will continue to build our knowledge more this week. We'll wrap up our review of letter names and learn another new sight word, like.
Math - Our new chapter is about ordering things by size. The students have been working so hard with their number writing and we'll keep strengthening our skills in that area too!
Religion - This week we start learning about the 10 Commandments. We'll hear the bible story of Moses and how he received the commandments from God. We will spend this week and next week looking at each commandment and learn about the Golden Rule.
Social Studies - we start the week discussing Labor Day and community helpers. Throughout the remainder of the week we'll talk about friendship and what it means to be a good friend to others.
Science- This week will learn about germs as we get closer to cold and flu season. We'll talk about the importance of washing our hands to prevent spreading germs and through a few fun hands on experiments, watch germs spread!
On Friday we will have our first school-wide Pride Day. For those of you new to Saint John, Pride days occur a few times throughout the year. The students are divided into "pride families" made up of kindergartners through 8th graders and meet in a different classroom. During the pride family time student's share in a group discussion, activities and prayer based on the session's theme. This first Pride day will focus on getting to know one another and loving the way God made each of us! I will prepare the kiddos in class and ensure everyone transitions to their "pride family" feeling excited and prepared!
Lastly, thank you to those of you who have brought in helping hand items for the classroom!! Many of them have already been put to good use! Please know the supplies are greatly appreciated!
