Welcome back to another week. It was so great having so many of you join our curriculum Night this past week.
Literacy: Our theme this week is families! We will be listening to a few stories focusing on families; Building With Dad and What Makes a Family. We start this week with our first high frequency word (sight word), I. We will continue to review the alphabet, focusing on letters k, l, m, n, and o. In grammar we will introduce nouns, more specifically words that name family members. Finally we will continue to practice rhyming words and specific sound patterns. I will continue to assess the students and begin the first round of DIBELS assessments this week. Religion: In connection with literacy the students will be introduced to the Jesus and his family, the Holy Family! We'll discuss Mary and Joseph, Jesus' mother and earthy father. Math: The students will be reviewing numbers 1-10 and continue to practice writing the numbers correctly. We continue centers this week with more hands on practice of counting to 10. Social Studies: With the discussions of families on the forefront of our minds we look at our families that are near and far. We'll compare and contrast our families in class looking at size and location. A few reminders... This week we get to meet our 4th grade Mass buddies and look forward to attending Mass with them this Wednesday. Yogurtini gives back to St. John! WHEN: Thursday, August 30th from 2-8 p.m. WHERE: Yogurtini at Scottsdale & Thunderbird WHO: You and all of your friends and family WHY: 20% of all frozen yogurt sales will benefit St. John HOW: Show the cashier the promotional flyer, pull up the image on your cell phone, or tell them you want your frozen yogurt sale to benefit St. John. EASY!
Have a great week...the Kinders and I sure will! Mrs. Zander
