I can't believe we are closing another month this week. The children and I have been counting our days in school using 10 frames...and we've been in school 31 days already. It's hard to believe how fast time is flying. A few reminders... Please continue to check the snack calendar under the Calendar tab above. I will post the October's calendar later this week. If you've accidentally missed your day for snack, no worries! Please do send a snack with your child as soon as possible so we are able to have a backup treat if we are short another day. Also, keep sending in those box tops. We are competing with the other classes for a chance to win and have a celebration sometime this winter! Lastly, thank you for the quick sign up for library volunteers. If be posting more dates after the new year, so there will be more opportunities. We have another fun week planned! Here's a look at what we'll be doing... Literacy: This week our theme is working and jobs. The students will hear a variety of stories including a fictional story, an informative text, and a fairytale/fable. In grammar, we dive into action verbs in the present tense and we will be adding the word "and" to our list of words we know. This week is also very exciting as we focus more on letter sounds; this week it's the sound /m/. Religion: This week our class will talk about God's house: the church. We will discuss items within the church and learn about their names and purpose. The students will also review our behavior and manners in God's house. We will learn a bit about the Church's hierarchy. And lastly, we'll hear a story from the bible about Jesus starting the Church. We will have our chapter test on last weeks topic: Loving others they way God loves us (quiz questions below). The children really absorbed the parables and stories told last week as it continued to build on the 10 Commandmants. The students paired up and created very colorful commandments would have been complete without a presentation to the class describing their specific commandment and drawing. So neat to see these through their eyes!
Quiz on Tuesday, 27 Quiz questions: 1. What do we call God's Law? The 10 Commandments 2. Who did God first give the Commandments to? Moses 3. Name 3 of the Commandments. 4. Who does God love? Everybody. 5. Who does God want us to love? God, ourselves, everyone. 6. Tell me one way we can show our love to others? Math: The students will become familiar with the teams fewer and more as well as learn about 1 to 1 correspondence. We will counting to practice writing our numbers correctly. Lastly, we had great fun celebrating the state of fall. We learned about Johnny Appleseed and we studied various apples and then tasted them to find out our favorites. This week we learn about how apples grow and what other foods apples are used in...maybe even more sampling!! The children wrapped up the week creating adorable Johnny Appleseed cutouts. More fun fall art this week!
